ANZPT – Season 2: A Growing Success in 2010

ANZPT Season 2 - 2010

Earlier this year the much anticipated Season 2 Schedule was announced and with it came two new venues – Perth and Canberra, taking the ANZPT destination count to an impressive 7 venues. But as if that wasn’t enough, on 14.05.10 at the ANZPT website’s news section, an 8th venue was announced – Darwin!

Season 1 attracted 1309 entrants, across just the 5 venues in 2009 and amassed a huge AUD$2,982,436 in prize money, Season 2 is sure to push well past the AUD$4M mark in prize money with threee additional venues!! Already the Adelaide leg has topped Season 1′s prize pool by $57,330, generating a total prize pool of $644, 280. The new Perth leg, held in March this year, was a huge success attracting a field of 222 & createed a record AUD$510,600 prizepool for ANZPT Perth. Then Sydney came along in March and smashed last years prizepool with a whopping $892,000!

ANZPT – Melbourne > PS Qualifier Levick Goes All The Way

The three day event attracted 218 entrants (not bad given day one started on Monday night – perhaps this will be addressed in Season 2 and can only be put down to Crown Casino “squeezing” it into their already packed Melbourne Champs schedule) who all paid the AUD$2,700 entry to create a AUD$545,000 prizepool.

After some late nights and long days of play a final table resulted and looked like this:

Some 9 grueling hours later, it was PokerStars.net qualifier Chris Levick that won out over regular and pokernews’ own blogger, Heath ‘TassieDevil’ Chick. Levick took home AUD$158,050 for 1st place and the inugural ANZPT – Melbourne Championship Trophey.

ANZPT Sydney – 25yo NSW Resident takes title

With a record field, for an event up to $3,000 buy in the 493 entrants meant AU$986,000 was up for grabs.

Sydney Champ - Paren Arzoomanian

Four intense days and 28 one-hour levels later, the first ANZPT Sydney Main Event title came down to a showdown between a 49-year-old mother-of-six and Gold Coast mortgage broker Lisa Walsh, and 25-year-old Sydney student Paren “Puzz” Arzoomanian. After a great heads up battle, the final hand came when Lisa shoved her stack into the middle and was all in with Kh-9c which Paren called with his Ac-5d. On flopping 2 pair it was over and the 25yo NSW student took home the title of ANZPT Sydney champion and a massive AU$246,500 for his efforts.

ANZPT Sydney has been a huge success and drew a field of 493 with a prize pool of AUD$986,000. The next event is ANZPT Melbourne which takes place May 25 – May 27.

ANZPT – Melbourne Leg Added

That’s right, PokerStars.net announced earlier this month that the mighty Crown Casino is joing the ANZPT tour by hosting the third leg of the ANZPT on May 25 – 27th, 2009. Crown are adding the crowd drawing event to their already packed Melbourne Champs schedule (info coming soon), running for two weeks in May 2009.

The buy in is AU$2,700 and the field will be capped at 450, that’s a potential prize pool of $AU1.125M.
