This week we launch a new freeroll, well it's a freeroll with a twist on a brand new platform...

888 Poker Provides a Freeroll With a Twist

The PokerNZ Sunday Freerolls have become a mainstay of online poker in New Zealand and over the past year we have been very thankful for the efforts and contributions from PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker in helping to establish the Sunday games for our Poker NZ members.

As promised, we introduce a new platform for you this week, not strictly speaking a freeroll, but a free tournament with a twist.

The folk at 888 Poker are offering $8 FREE into every PokerNZ Member account to get them started for the upcoming tournaments that will be happening every Sunday on 888 Poker for our Poker NZ members.

Then you can use this free money to play in the $2 tournaments that will be kicking off from this Sunday. Not only that, 888 have also kicked in an EXTRA $100 to the pot, so depending on how many players we get, the prize pool could be quite a lot better than what we’ve been used to with our traditional freerolls.

If you haven’t got an account at 888 Poker yet, simply click any of the 888 links on this site, sign up as you would for any normal account and within minutes an email will be sent to you. Click the link to confirm your account and presto, you’ve got $8 to play with.

Our first $2 PokerNZ Sunday Slam tournament will be kicking off this Sunday, full details can be found on the Tournaments tab of our Facebook page.

We really want to get as many people on board for the first one as possible, so please encourage your mates to sign up, grab that free $8 and join us this Sunday on the new 888 Poker platform.

You can register at tournament #30109861, you can find this in the lobby by going to ‘All Games’ / ‘Tournaments’ / ‘Restricted’

The free $8 will only be given to new accounts sorry, but they do have some decent deposit bonuses anyway so you shouldn’t miss out!

We’ll be sharing more with you about the various platforms over coming weeks and would love to hear your feedback on the 888 Platform after the tournament this Sunday.

Deke gives us the final instalment of his Poker Comedy Gold list, these one's are the best of the lot!

Poker Oscars, Top 10 Comedy Moments in Poker

This week we’re joined by a special guest contributor, Deke from Wellington. He has kindly put together this article for us all to enjoy.

3. Joe the pro:

Also a series, but unfortunately Joe has not released a new vlog (video blog) in some time. His satirical look at a real life online grinder has me in stitches. I chose this episode because Jo discusses the infamous pee bottle that is an unfortunate ‘must’ when grinding.

Also see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zan9FQD0ir8&feature=related (a classic Hitler rant)

2. Bling Bbang Blaow + thread:

Probably the most epic poker thread / track ever made. This link is well deserving of a number 2 placing – rub it on my titties!

Thread: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/54/poker-beats-brags-variance/created-victory-song-when-i-beat-someone-headsup-491103/

1. The Raven:

Edgar Allan Poe wrote a poem in 1845, only for it to be adapted for poker humor. What makes this clip number 1 was that it was created from a thread in a forum (see number 2). It is just cool or in poker terms, – the stone cold nuts. Enjoy.

See you at the tables.

Deke from Wellington gives us another 4 funny videos from the Poker Comedy Oscars, some stellar moments in here!

Poker Oscars, Top 10 Comedy Moments in Poker

This week we’re joined by a special guest contributor, Deke from Wellington. He has kindly put together this article for us all to enjoy.

7. Water boat :

With the user gder01 on YouTube or water boat on Full tilt this guy has created a whole series of reverse poker strategy videos – engineered solely of comedic value. I have picked out my favorite one that goes into detail about “Reverse Twilighting”. However I must not fully understand this concept yet as according to my poker tracker stats it’s only cost me EV (excepted value) thus far.

Click here to view the embedded video.

6. The micros:

Now sponsored by Full Tilt, this web series follows 3 degenerate poker players that bink (win) a poker tourney. The more you watch it, the more you pick up. Props to John Wray for this one. A solid no. 6.

Click here to view the embedded video.

5 .Da Pokerz:

A Youtube rap hit. Da pokerz has so much poker lingo and inside references that it really hit a soft spot for me – very funny and well produced.

Click here to view the embedded video.

4. No Money heads up every ones solid:

This thread started as a frustrated player took to the forums to vent and how it ended, well……… poker comedy gold.

The thread: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/185/heads-up-sng/no-money-heads-up-everyones-solid-704340/

Disclaimer: Much funnier if you read over the thread first.

Click here to view the embedded video.

We’ll have the rest of the Top Comedy Poker moments over the weekend

Wellington poker player Deke gives us his list of Top Comedy Poker Moments, check out the videos inside...

Poker Oscars, Top 10 Comedy Moments in Poker

This week we’re joined by a special guest contributor, Deke from Wellington. He has kindly put together this article for us all to enjoy.

As I sit here at my computer after a long session of online poker, I seek to unwind in my favorite way – checking the poker forums and consuming any new poker media that may have popped up in the last 30 minutes. You see I am a man obsessed with all things poker, a student of the game and a massive fan boy of the players and industry in general.

My name is Deke I play online and host 2 venues a week for my pub poker league in Wellington, Pokerfun.

Anywho, as I scroll the forums (2+2), I feel compelled to make a list of the 10 best poker comedy links. Things I have seen over the years that I find clever and funny. I rank them and give my reasons, as is standard in composing lists

10. Hellmuth getting owned:

This clip on my list has taken massive heat for douche baggery but Phil asks for it with his loutish behavior. Truly one of the craziest TV poker moments – poor Phil

Click here to view the embedded video.

9. Yellow and black:

Famous poker player Prahlad Friedman joins the ranks of Ultimate bet as a sponsored pro. The irony is he detests sponsorship and was one of the biggest victims of the UB cheating scandal, losing much of his bankroll and destroying his poker confidence.

This link is a rap song created to mock Prahlad and even though we are fellow Vegetarians I still find myself smiling at his expense.

Click here to view the embedded video.

8. Livb owns drunken guy:

Oivier Busquet, or Livb as he is known on Fulltilt is my hero. He owns Heads -up sit and goes so here is his time to shine. Heads – up in a WPT (World Poker tour) out – chipped playing against a random cocky douche. The humor comes as Livb takes the lead and his opponents demeanor changes. I start it at part 2 of 4 a longish watch but still funny – enjoy.

Support Christchurch by playing poker this Sunday

It’s wonderful to see the NZ Poker Community pouring out their hearts and wallets for the people of Chirstchurch and this Sunday it’s South Auckland’s turn.

Starting at 1pm at the Mangere Cosmopolitan Club, this $20 buyin tournament will have 50% of the proceeds going to the prize pool and 50% going to the Red Cross for Christchurch.

Not only that but .50c off each pint will also be donated too. It’s a great cause (and it’s not like we need an excuse to play anyway!) so head out the Mangere Cossie Club and play against some of South Auckland’s finest.

PokerStars new Home Games format is a revolutionary shift in poker, find out why inside....

New Home Games format from PokerStars is changing the game

If you like playing home games, now you can take them online with PokerStars.

The newly released PokerStars Home Games lets you create and manage your own private poker club to play online with just your friends, on your timetable.

It’s really easy to create a club, you just need to pick a club name and create an invitation code.

Then you’ll be presented with your own lobby that you can customise with your own home game tables and tournaments of your choice.

Then to get friends to join, you just send them your club ID and the invitation code, then accept them as a member when you join.

When you want to schedule the games, you simply set the game type, the buy-in, then set the date for the game. The system will automatically notify your members.

This really is going to revolutionise the way people play poker online, and will go down as one of the big shifts in online poker in years to come (my prediction anyway).

PokerStars have been really clever where they are using the power of social pressure to encourage ‘non-onliners’ to join their friends online or get left out!

It’s a clever little system and no doubt we’ll see a lot more Home Games leagues sprouting up soon.

But if you thought that was cool, then check this out…..

To celebrate the launch of PokerStars Home Games, you can win a pro to play in your league and $1000 added to the prize pool! Full details can be found on the site. If you fancy going heads up with a PokerStars Pro, you’d better start a league!

To get set up, download the PokerStars software from here

We kick off 2011 with a new Freeroll partner, Full Tilt Poker. All the details including a look at the new Rush Poker format can be found inside...

PokerNZ welcomes Full Tilt Poker

This year we’ve partnered up with some new poker rooms to bring you more online action so you can play against the rest of the crew here at PokerNZ.

Our first new partner is Full Tilt Poker.

You have probably already heard of Full Tilt, they signed a sponsorship deal late last year with our very own Simon Watt and are the 2nd largest poker network in the world.

This is an especially proud moment in NZ poker history as Simon joins the team of pros including Howard Lederer, Tom durrrr Dwan and Phil Ivey. You can view his Full Tilt profile here.

Ful Tilt run a solid game on a clean platform. They have any number of poker playing options, but their most popular new feature is Rush Poker.

Rush Poker is the ultimate high-speed poker experience available exclusively at Full Tilt Poker.

This amazing new poker format is designed to minimize your wait time between hands and keep you in the action at all times.

Whether you’re playing a Rush Poker ring game or a Rush Poker Tournament, you’ll join a large player pool and play with a different table of opponents on every hand you play.

When you fold your hand, you’ll then be rushed over to a new table for the next hand immediately. It certainly makes for an exciting game!

You can watch the video for it here

FREEROLLS

To celebrate our new partnership with Full Tilt, we’re going to be running a series of Freeroll Tournaments on Full Tilt and will also be promoting a number of specialty tournaments throughout the year on the Full Tilt platform.

If you don’t alkready have the Full Tilt software, you can download it from here. FULL TILT DOWLOAD

If you are asked for a promo code, identify yourself as a PokerNZ member and use the code ‘GOKWI’

Our tournament schedules are posted on our Facebook page and passwords are also listed there or sent to you via email.

The Freeroll on Full Tilt is called the PokerNZ.com Sunday Best, because we need you to bring your Sunday Best!

Tournament ID#211873939. You can find it by going to the Tournament/Private/Freerolls area in their lobby, but it’s probably easier to go to the ‘Requests’ menu at the top of the lobby, then scroll down to ‘Find a Tournament’ (or simply press CTRL T).

We look forward to seeing you at the next Sunday Best and trust you’ll enjoy playing at Full Tilt Poker.
