All the greats have been there – Ivey, Durrrr, Cardno. Your out at the club having fun, disco lights flashing. Ding! There’s your Ace High Flush on the river and your opponent goes all-in! You double fist pump call, but wait.. he shows the straight flush! Feeling sick to the stomach, you forcefully swallow – keeping the vomit which regurgitated up into your mouth from spewing out on to innocent bi-dancers. “Party!” a friend shouts in your ear, swinging his arm around your neck in what you are assured is not a seductive act as he hands you another Tequila shot. “Ahh can’t win ‘em all I guess” you think to yourself. You shoot the Tequila, chase it with your Vodka-Red Bull and continue to dance the night away. Boom Boom Pow! As a tall slender hottie starts grinding on you from behind. Yea, Here we go… Top Set / 3 Bet Pot / Rainbow Flop / Raise / All-in / Call. You start to crack a smile as you proceed with the Turn, but wait.. Is that drawers you see? You look at your friends hoping it’s not true but everyone knows what’s cuming – Your on 5th street and she’s showing you nuts! In a rage of fury you grab his/her whisky, knock it back and head for your car. Mumbling incomprehensible nothings your driving along the cliff-face leading back home, your eyes are getting blurry, your struggling to keep awake, barely able make out the car(d)s as they appear in front of you. You start drifting, closer and closer to the edge, almost knowingly – but unable to stop yourself now – you pass over the centre-line and are heading directly for the curb.

I like/dislike to think of it as ‘the learning curb’ – it’s metaphorical although magical place, a place where things become so clear, a place where everything makes sense, a place your never ever want to be! You can’t avoid it once you see it, but what you learn once you hit it may help you avoid facing it ever again.
